Our Self-Care Workshop Offered Take-Home, Yoga-Based Tools for Mind Obstacles

Hi everyone! This is Shannen, founding editor-in-chief of The Strange is Beautiful and 500 hour trauma informed yoga instructor. I had the honor of leading our Self-Care for Mind Obstacles Workshop on July 29, 2018 and it was SO MUCH FUN !!!! The hardest thing about self-care is having healing options be accessible and affordable. For this workshop, my goal was to provide as many alternative medicine practices as possible, taught in the clearest way, and to make sure that everyone left feeling confident about practicing everything on their own post-workshop.

During the two-hour workshop, I split up the time into a few key physical yoga poses (or asana), breath work (or pranayama), a meditation, self-massage, and partner work to learn eight things to do for panic attacks. I made sure to explain what each pose or healing practice is typically used to aid. Between each self-care tool we practiced, I gave space for all to express how each activity felt in their body, and offered variations and modifications based on their answers. Everything was based on my personal experience with mind obstacles, my yoga training and studies, and “The Strange is Beautiful Alternative Self-Help Guide.”

I LOVED hearing how each pose, breath and the meditation impacted everyone differently. And it was so, so, so beautiful to watch their partner work at the end to practice techniques for panic attacks, as well as to give each other a personal affirmation!

Thank you to the beautiful souls who participated, and please DM or email me if you have any questions. Blessed that LA Sewcial Club @lasewcialclub and Union Swapmeet @unionswapmeet gave us this space to come together I LOVE YOU ALL SO MUCH!!!!

Below are testimonials from the workshop.
