Sadcore Sundays: “Sprained Ankle” by Julien Baker

Sadcore Sundays: "Sprained Ankle" by Julien Baker

This “Sadcore Sundays” song “Sprained Ankle” by Julien Baker was requested by Casey Ash.

“There’s a sweet story behind my request.
The singer’s name is Julien Baker, and I found her while doing a Google search for girls named Julien. That may seem like a pretty random search, but I was looking so that I could send to a friend, who has a young kid named Julien. “He” expressed feelings about “his” gender not being who “he” is, but “his” mom thinks “he” is too young to know… either way, I found Julien Baker, and sent the links to her songs. My friend cried, and hugged me really tight the next time we saw each other. I’m not sure how her kid will identify as “he” grows older, but Julien was very happy to know that there was a “cool girl singer” with the same name.”

Thank you Casey for sharing that beautiful story <3 Below are the lyrics to “Sprained Ankle” by Julien Baker.

Lyrics: “Sprained Ankle” by Julien Baker

Wish I could write songs about anything other than death
But I can’t go to bed without drawing the red, shaving off breaths;
Each one so heavy, each one so cumbersome
Each one a lead weight hanging between my lungs
Spilling my guts
Sweat on a microphone, breaking my voice
Whenever I’m alone with you, can’t talk but
“Isn’t this weather nice? Are you okay?”
Should I go somewhere else and hide my face?
A sprinter learning to wait
A marathon runner, my ankles are sprained
A marathon runner, my ankles are sprained
