Sadcore Sundays: “Creep” by Radiohead

Sadcore Sundays: "Creep" by Radiohead

This week, I found out my younger cousin is also a Radiohead fan, and that one of his favorite song’s of theirs is “Creep.” I had forgotten how much I used to love that song. The iconic “But I’m a creep, I’m a weirdo” line resonated with me in middle school, high school, and still now, as I’ve always felt like an outcast. Even though, in context of the song, that line has a negative connotation, I felt a sense of strength and pride like, fuck it, I am a creep, I am a weirdo, I don’t know what the hell I’m doing here, and I’m gonna own that. I hope this song helps you embrace your strange and beautiful self.

Sadcore Sundays: “I’m So Tired” by Fugazi

Sadcore Sundays: "I'm So Tired" by Fugazi

One time when I couldn’t fall asleep, my friend looped “I’m So Tired” by Fugazi, and it was the only thing that got me to finally enter dream world. The piano chords seem to trudge up a flight of stairs, slowly turning the knob of your bedroom door, and belly flopping on to your mattress in extreme exhaustion and burnout. Meanwhile, his voice is a gentle lullaby, taking your shoes and socks off that you were too tired to remove yourself, tucks you in, and turns the light off.

Sadcore Sundays: “Out Loud” by scarypoolparty

Sadcore Sundays: "Out Loud" by scarypoolparty

Back in August 2018, Janette Ayub of Girl Underground Music invited me to play a benefit show as Cusi Coyllur to help keep families together who were separated due to Trump’s zero tolerance policy. After I performed, scarypoolparty went on and I fell in love with his fast finger-picking, soothing voice, and his song “Out Loud.” So much so that the next day, I learned it on piano and played it over and over again, adding vocal harmonies to it too.

Sadcore Sundays: “Somebody That I Used to Know” by Gotye feat. Kimbra

Sadcore Sundays: "Somebody That I Used to Know" by Gotye feat. Kimbra

Lyrics:

Now and then I think of when we were together Like when you said you felt so happy you could die Told myself that you were right for me But felt so lonely in your company But that was love and it’s an ache I still remember You can get addicted to a certain kind of sadness Like resignation to the end, always the end So when we found that we could not make sense Well you said that we would still be friends But I’ll admit that I was glad it was over But you didn’t have to cut me off Make out like it never happened and that we were nothing And I don’t even need your love But you treat me like a stranger and that feels so rough No, you didn’t have to stoop so low Have your friends collect your records and then change your number I guess that I don’t need that though Now you’re just somebody that I used to know Now you’re just somebody that I used to know Now you’re just somebody that I used to know Now and then I think of all the times you screwed me over But had me believing it was always something that I’d done But I don’t wanna live that way Reading into every word you say You said that you could let it go And I wouldn’t catch you hung up on somebody that you used to know But you didn’t have to cut me off Make out like it never happened and that we were nothing And I don’t even need your love But you treat me like a stranger and that feels so rough No, you didn’t have to stoop so low Have your friends collect your records and then change your number I guess that I don’t need that though Now you’re just somebody that I used to know Somebody (I used to know) (Somebody) Now you’re just somebody that I used to know Somebody (I used to know) (Somebody) Now you’re just somebody that I used to know I used to know, that I used to know, I used to know somebody

Sending you ++posi vibes++

Lyrics:

“Even In The Dark”

For those who work so hard
Never see their children
Never see their children grow
Into the gifts they give them
