"You Can Be Broke and Self-Care" Exhibit: Recap, Photos & Resources

“You Can Be Broke and Self-Care” is a photo interview exhibit featuring 13 people in LA with mind obstacles (that’s what we call mental illnesses) practicing alternative self-care authentically in their home or space.

It was created by Shannen Roberts (she/her), the queer, Peruvian-American founder of The Strange is Beautiful. Spanish translation completed by Angelica Ravelo Franco (@ange.ravelo & angemerce79@gmail.com).

Meditation Mondays: Social Anxiety Tips and Gratitude

Meditation Mondays: Social Anxiety Tips and Gratitude

I don’t usually make a blog post for Meditation Mondays, it’s usually just a weekly post on our Instagram, but my meditation last night was super reflective and I’d like to share some thoughts with you on tips for social anxiety and on gratitude :)

Last night I did a bath meditation. I’ve done a few in the last couple of weeks. My body has been achy, dry, tight and way too cold so I figured some loofah action mixed with some warm water would help circulation in my body. I typically HATE baths but it’s been suiting my body so well in this vata season and I’ve been hanging out in my bath tub longer than I thought I would. It lets my whole body and mind relax, my emotions release and gives me the comforting space to change my perspective.

Sadcore Sundays INTERVIEW: "Come to the Party" by Bears and You

“do you wanna come see my band?
put a gun in my hand
do you wanna come to the party?”

“Come to the Party” off of Bears and You’s “Yearbook” album is perfect for all of you social anxiety cuties and for when you can’t sleep ’cause you’re thinking about your taken-crush whom you wish could be with you. This electronic, ambient, dreamy song is about not fitting in with college’s party culture and feeling super self-conscious about it.

Bears and You consists of Nick Bottomley who released Yearbook upon graduation from college (congrats !!). Nick said, “I wrote the song about a kind of imaginary ideal life, where all the things I was worrying about at the time worked out, where I was in a cool band and people wanted to hang out with me after a show.”

Below is a short Q&A with Nick so you can hear his story <3 <3 <3.
