My torn, unraveled self
I’m locked outside myself
I see me shiver”

Sadcore Sundays: “Sprained Ankle” by Julien Baker

Sadcore Sundays: "Sprained Ankle" by Julien Baker

This “Sadcore Sundays” song “Sprained Ankle” by Julien Baker was requested by Casey Ash.

“There’s a sweet story behind my request.
The singer’s name is Julien Baker, and I found her while doing a Google search for girls named Julien. That may seem like a pretty random search, but I was looking so that I could send to a friend, who has a young kid named Julien. “He” expressed feelings about “his” gender not being who “he” is, but “his” mom thinks “he” is too young to know… either way, I found Julien Baker, and sent the links to her songs. My friend cried, and hugged me really tight the next time we saw each other. I’m not sure how her kid will identify as “he” grows older, but Julien was very happy to know that there was a “cool girl singer” with the same name.”

Thank you Casey for sharing that beautiful story <3 Below are the lyrics to “Sprained Ankle” by Julien Baker.

Lyrics: “Sprained Ankle” by Julien Baker

julie baker

Wish I could write songs about anything other than death
But I can’t go to bed without drawing the red, shaving off breaths;
Each one so heavy, each one so cumbersome
Each one a lead weight hanging between my lungs
Spilling my guts
Sweat on a microphone, breaking my voice
Whenever I’m alone with you, can’t talk but
“Isn’t this weather nice? Are you okay?”
Should I go somewhere else and hide my face?
A sprinter learning to wait
A marathon runner, my ankles are sprained
A marathon runner, my ankles are sprained

Sadcore Sundays: “Valentine” by Fiona Apple

Sadcore Sundays: "Valentine" by Fiona Apple

Lyrics:

You didn’t see my valentine
I sent it via pantomime
While you were watchin’ someone else
I stared at you and cut myself

Its all I’ll do ’cause I’m not free
A fugitive too dull to flee
I’m amorous but out of reach
A still life drawing of a peach

I’m a tulip in a cup
I stand no chance of growing up
I’ve made my peace I’m dead I’m done
I watched you live to have my fun

I root for you, I love you. You, you, you, you. [x2]

I made it to a dinner date
My tear drops seasoned every plate
I tried to dance but lost my nerve
I cramped up in the learning curve

I’m a tulip in a cup
I stand no chance of growing up
I’m resigned to sail on through
In the wake of tales of you

I root for you, I love you. You, you, you, you.
I root for you, I love you. You, you, you.
I root for you, I love you. You, you, you, you, you, you, you.
I root for you, I love you. You, you, you.

Sadcore Sundays: “By Your Side” by CocoRosie

Sadcore Sundays: "By Your Side" by CocoRosie

Lyrics:

I’ll always be by your side
Even when you’re down and out
I’ll always be by your side
Even when you’re down and out

I just wanted to be your housewife
All I wanted was to be your housewife

I’ll iron your clothes
I’ll shine your shoes
I’ll make your bed
And cook your food

I’ll never cheat
I’ll be the best girl you’d ever meet
And for a diamond ring
I’ll do these kinds of things

I’ll scrub your floor
Never be a bore
I’ll tuck you in
I do not snore

I’d wear your black eyes
Bake you apple pies
I don’t ask whys
And I’d try not to cries

I’ll always be by your side
Even when you’re down and out
I’ll always be by your side
Even when you’re down and out

And it’s nearly midnight
And all I want with my life
Is to be a housewife
Is to be a housewife

‘Cause it’s nearly midnight
And all I want with my life
Is to die a housewife
Is to die a housewife

And it’s nearly midnight
And all I want with my life
Is to be a housewife
Is to be a housewife

‘Cause it’s nearly midnight
And all I want with my life
Is to die a housewife
Is to die a housewife

i’d become blind

insanity took its turn
and drove me straight into your car
screaming yelling begging for you to just show me your heart”
